No. 7 Rutgers Too Much For Cal Women's Hoops

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (AP) - Tasha Pointer scored 13 points to spark No. 7 Rutgers to a 66-47 victory over California in a foul-plagued season opener on Friday night.

Pointer, a senior point guard who missed the preseason because of a lowerback strain, helped Rutgers erase an early deficit and take a 32-19 lead at thehalf.

Rutgers' defense held Cal without a field goal for a 10-minute stretch inthe first half and again for the final 7:37 of the second half.

Lauren Ashbaugh and Courtney Johnson had 11 points for Cal.
