Women's Basketball Falls To Utah In Home Opener, 65-42

Los Angeles, CA - The UCLA women's basketball team lost to Utah (1-0) in the Bruins' home opener, 65-42. The Utes used a 17-0 run early in the second half to turn a one-point ballgame into an 18-point lead.
The Bruins (0-3) led by as much as eight points, at 16-8 with 11:50 to go in the first half. Utah then went on a 14-2 run to take a 22-18 lead and then never looked back.UCLA cut Utah's lead to 34-33 at 16:34 on a pair of Natalie Nakase free throws but then saw Utah make its decisive 17-0 run to go ahead 51-33. The Utes outscored the Bruins 29-4 in a stretch of 13 minutes in the second half.
Jalina Bradley led the Bruins with career highs in points (12) and assists (5). Natalie Jarrett scored nine points with five rebounds before coming out of the game in the second half with concussion-like symptoms. Gennifer Arranaga also contributed nine points, with four steals. UCLA leading scorer Michelle Greco re-aggravated her sprained right ankle and did not score in 17 minutes of play.
Erin Gibbons led the Utes with 14 points. Amy Ewert scored 12, and Kristina Andersen had 10 with a game-high nine rebounds.
The Bruins next play on Sunday at home in an exhibition against Love and Basketball at 2:00 pm.
