Stanford Men's Basketball Travels To San Juan Puerto Rico Shootout

The Stanford basketball team will travel to uncharted territory when the Cardinal ventures to San Juan for the Puerto Rico Shootout ... This will be the first time a Stanford basketball team has competed in Puerto Rico ... The Cardinal will play three games in three days starting on Nov. 23 at 4:00 p.m. (Puerto Rico time) against Old Dominion ... The tournament field, including Stanford and Old Dominion, will have Memphis, Utah, Georgia, Indiana State, Miami (Ohio), and American-Puerto Rico ... All games will be played at the Eugene Guerra Sports Complex, located on the American University of Puerto Rico campus.
With ten lettermen and three starters returning, another championship season awaits ... The Cardinal finished the 1999-00 season 27-4 and earned a second straight Pac-10 title at 15-3 ... Nearly every pre-season national polls finds the Cardinal among the top teams in the country ... That includes a #3 ranking by ESPN/USA Today, and a #4 national ranking by Associated Press ... This year's roster is composed of 15 players, including a strong senior class of Jarron Collins, Michael McDonald and Ryan Mendez ... Two redshirt freshman, Justis Davis and Tyler Besecker, will be added to the mix along with three true freshmen, Teyo Johnson, Matt Lottich and Nick Robinson ... This promises to be another outstanding Stanford basketball team.

Stanford opened the 2000-01 season with a 100-49 victory over San Francisco State (11/19/00) as point-guard Michael McDonald scored a career-high 19 points ... McDonald hit a career-high five three-pointers in six attempts, and overall hit 7-of-9 shots ... McDonald also dished out three assists in 19 minutes of play ... Seven-foot sophomore center Curtis Borchardt scored 14 points (12-for-12 from the free throw line), grabbed eight rebounds and dished out three assists in 20 minutes of play ...
