UCLA Women's Basketball Drops Overtime Contest To Love & Basketball

Los Angeles, CA - The UCLA women's basketball team lost an exhibition contest to Love & Basketball by a score of 82-78 in overtime at UCLA's Pauley Pavilion.
Junior center Malika Leatham recorded a double-double with 13 points and 17 rebounds. Sophomore forward Natalie Jarrett led the team in scoring with 23 points and also contributed six rebounds. Also scoring in double figures were sophomore guard Jalina Bradley (18), junior forward Stacy Robertson (15 points, nine rebounds). Sophomore guard Natalie Nakase had nine assists to go along with five points and four rebounds.
Trisha Stafford-Odom led Love & Basketball with 23 points and 10 rebounds. All five starters scored in double figures.
Love & Basketball controlled the game early in the first half, taking a 22-11 lead with 8:49 to play, but the Bruins went on an 11-0 run to tie the game at 22. UCLA grabbed its first lead at 28-26 at the 4:38 mark when Nakase drilled a three-point shot. UCLA led at halftime, 36-32.
The two teams played close in the second period. At the 32-second mark, Gennifer Arranga hit two free throws to assume a 70-68 UCLA lead, but Allah-mi Basheer answered with a jumper to tie with 22 seconds left. After a UCLA turnover, Jamilah Jones' shot to win the game at the buzzer missed, and the two teams went into overtime
In the overtime period, foul trouble hurt the Bruins, as Nakase fouled out just 17 seconds into the extra period, and Arranaga fouled out with over three minutes to play. Again, the lead switched hands many times, and the game was decided in the final minute. A Jarrett jump shot at 1:10 gave UCLA a 78-76 lead, but Love & Basketball's Val Agee hit a three-pointer with 46 seconds to play to give her team a 79-78 advantage which they never relinquished.
The Bruins hit the road for a Saturday, Nov. 25 contest at BYU. The game will take place at 3:00 pm Mountain Time.
