Nov. 22, 2000
Los Angeles, Calif. -- Luanna Magnani of Pasadena, Calif., has signed a letter-of-intent to play tennis at USC, women's head coach Richard Gallien announced today.
Magnani of San Marino High, is currently the top-ranked USTA under-18 singles player in Southern California, and the 10th-ranked singles player in the nation. As a four-year letterwinner at San Marino, Magnani won the 1999 CIF Individual Singles Championship by beating current USC freshman Melissa Esmero. Among her many tournament titles, she won the 2000 Junior Singles Championship and finished third at the 2000 Super Nationals and 2000 Easter Bowl.
'I believe that Luanna is definitely among the two best junior players in the country and it's fantastic that she chose to stay in Southern California,' Gallien said. 'I'm extremely excited to have her join us next year.'
Last year, the 1th-ranked USC women's tennis team advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals and finished with a 18-9 overall record. This season's squad begins dual-match play on Jan. 17 at home against UC Irvine.
