WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Arizona junior forward Michael Wright has been named the Pacific-10 Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Nov. 20-26 , Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Wright, from Chicago, Ill., averaged 16.8 points and 12.5 rebounds last week as the Wildcats captured the Maui Invitational championship.
In earning Maui Invitational MVP honors, Wright collected 15 points and an Invitational single-game record 19 rebounds against Chaminade. He posted the 27th double-double of his career with 18 points and 13 rebounds against Dayton, then capped off his Maui performance with 16 points and nine rebounds against Illinois. Following the Maui Invitational, Arizona traveled to Indianapolis for the Wooden Tradition where Wright scored 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds in a losing effort against Purdue. For the week, he shot 23-of-44 (.523) from the field and 21-of-25 (.840) from the free throw line.
It is the second weekly award for Wright, the 49th all-time honor for the Wildcats.
