The Stanford Cardinal basketball team, winners of the Puerto Rico Shootout, return home for a non-league game on Wednesday, November 28, against UC Riverside, and then hit the road again for a Saturday (Dec. 2) non-league contest at Long Beach State ... The Cardinal is off to another strong start, 4-0, including three wins (Old Dominion, Memphis, Georgia) at the Puerto Rico Shootout ... The Cardinal won its opening round game with an 84-60 victory over Old Dominion (11/23/00) as Honors Candidate Ryan Mendez scored 18 points, grabbed three rebounds and dished out three assists ... Four other Cardinal players scored in double figures, All-America candidate Casey Jacobsen with 16 points, Curtis Borchardt with 12, Julius Barnes with eleven and All-America candidate Jarron Collins with ten ... Jason Collins led both teams in rebounds with ten ... Stanford continued its hot shooting from three-point territory, hitting 9-of-18 shots from the floor ... In the semi-finals, Stanford scored a 83-60 victory over Memphis (11/24/00) as Jacobsen tallied a game-high 22 points, and Jason Collins added a career-high 19 points along with eight rebounds ... The Cardinal then beat Georgia (11/25/00), 71-58, in the championship game ... Jacobsen led the Cardinal with 22 points (7-for-10 from the floor) while Mendez added 17 points and three steals ... Jacobsen was named the tournament's MVP, while Mendez and Jason Collins were named to the all-tournament team.

McDonald's father, Glenn, was an All-American guard at Long Beach State (1971-74) .. Glenn is now the intramural director at Long Beach State.

Casey Jacobsen is Stanford's nominee for Pac-10 Player of the Week ... Jacobsen helped lead the Cardinal to three wins and the championship at the Puerto Rico Shootout last week ... Jacobsen scored 60 points (16-for-29 from the floor, 8-for-15 from three-point territory) and grabbed 13 rebounds in the three games ... Jacobsen was named the tournament MVP.
They were born eight minutes apart, and have been playing basketball since the age of six ... Jarron and Jason Collins are now in the starting lineup for the nationally-ranked Cardinal and making a major impact ... Combined they are totaling 21.8 points and 16.5 rebounds per game.
He missed the last eleven games of the 1999-00 season with a stress fracture in his right foot ... And then he was hampered by bone spurs in his foot that required surgery during the summer ... Thus he came back to Stanford not in the greatest shape and not expected to contribute right away ... But Curtis Borchardt (7-0, 230 pounds, Sophomore) has made a remarkable comeback even though he is not 100 percent ... Coming off the bench and averaging 19.0 minutes per game, Borchardt is averaging 7.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game ... Borchardt already has eleven blocks ... Last year, in 20 games he blocked 42 shots, and was well on his way to breaking the school record of 50 before he was sidelined for the last eleven games with a stress fracture in his right foot ...
