Johnna Nealy of Grants Pass Signs With Oregon Women's Golf

Nov. 28, 2000

EUGENE, Ore. -- Johnna Nealy of Grants Pass has signed a national letter of intent to play golf for Oregon next fall.

'I've watched Johnna play a couple of times and I'm very impressed,' said Oregon women's golf coach Shannon Rouillard. 'She hits the ball a long ways and is very competitive. She is a great addition to our team and I expect her to come in and make an immediate impact.'

Nealy won the 2000 Peter Jacobsen Challenge and was a semifinalist at this summer's Oregon junior match play championships. She took fifth at the 2000 Oregon state high school championships and placed second for Grants Pass High in the District finals.

Nealy is the third member of her family to receive a golf scholarship to a Division I institution. She has two older sisters who played at Arizona State and New Mexico.

Oregon will graduate five seniors this spring, including Jerilyn White, an All-America candidate, Dawn Berry, Kimi Cunningham, Claire Hunter and Julia Smith.
