Washington-Portland State Quotes
Washington 94, Portland State 63

Bank of America Arena, Seattle, Wash.
WASHINGTON HEAD COACH BOB BENDER
'The second half was a much better twenty minutes than the first half. That was they way we expect to play and it was an improvement upon Saturday's game. We were back on our heals, reacting for the most part during the first half. The message that we sent is that we are not a team that can change identities and the kids responded well. We came out in the second half and played well defensively and that created momentum for us on the offensive side, and we started to knock down some shots. We were missing a lot of open shots in the first half, but that changed as we took control of the game and finished well. It was an important game for us because we finished 2-1 in this homestand and now we are going on the road.'
On the tempo of the first half vs. the second half:
'The first half we were reacting and we were a step slow defensively. On the offensive side of things, like I said, we would miss some pretty open shots and have no one going to the glass. We then forced the tempo with the defense and then we varied the offense by going to the basket, which got us to the foul line and also by knocking down the jump shots.'
On David Dixon:
'David had an important individual game, it was a confidence builder and that is huge for our team. He has had success in practice and he is in a lot better shape this year, but he has trouble having that same mentality in a game, and tonight he found that success. He was playing very explosive.'
On Thalo Green:
'Thalo has been our catalyst. He was out with the injury, but he came into this game with a lot of confidence and he makes us a better team.'
PORTLAND STATE HEAD COACH JOEL SOBOTKA
'I thought in the first half we did exactly what we wanted to do. What really, really, hurt us, I thought, was that our guard play wasn't great. We've got to be better with the basketball - we had 11 turnover.'
On Charles Madison:
'We went with the guys tonight that we thought have been doing a good job for us. You've got to get the offensive rebounds, get to the glass and make some plays, and he did that as good as you can.'
On the upcoming schedule:
'We've gone on the road and played some good teams, and it wears on you, it wears on your defense. We've got to get better, and get healthy if we can. For these guys, it's going to be real important that we're ready to play, because we've played extremely hard and we've worked so hard.'
