Women's Basketball Falls To Colorado, 88-63

Boulder, CO - The University of Colorado women's basketball team (5-0) defeated the UCLA Bruins (0-6) 88-63 in front of 2,008 fans at the Coors Events/Conference Center Saturday.
Michelle Greco led four UCLA players in double-figures with 15 points. Also scoring in double-digits were Shalada Allen with a UCLA career-high 14 points off the bench, Gennifer Arranaga with 11 points and a career-high five rebounds off the bench, and Jalina Bradley with 10 points on 4-6 shooting with a career-best five rebounds. Natalie Nakase also had career numbers iwith seven points and seven assists. Malika Leatham led the Bruins in rebounding with six.
The Buffs were led by the play of juniors Caroline Koechlin and Britt Hartshorn. Koechlin led the team with 18 points and eight assists while playing for 32 minutes. Hartshorn added a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Also adding double-digit performances for Colorado were freshman Tera Bjorklund and Mandy Nightingale, who had 15 points apiece.
Colorado jumped out to a quick 9-0 lead at the 17:01 mark. UCLA responded with six quick points to cut the lead to three. The teams then traded small runs before Colorado took their first double-digit lead of 27-17 at the 6:47 mark, before Koechlin ended the half with a last-second lay up to give the Buffs a 44-31 lead at the half.
The Buffs also started out strong in the second half on a 16-6 run that lasted 6:15 to take a 23 point lead. The lead didn't fluctuate too much, with Colorado taking their largest lead of 27 off two Koechlin free-throws with 42 seconds left before ending the game with a 88-63 win.
UCLA will next face Long Beach State on Sunday, Dec. 10 at Pauley Pavilion. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 pm.
