Bibby Quotes From Media Luncheon
Dec. 4, 2000
LOS ANGELES - Henry Bibby - Dec. 4, 2000
(On Cal State Northridge) 'They're a very tough team that plays hard. Up to this time, we haven't played anybody as tough as CSUN. And I'm not just saying that because it's our next game. They get after you offensively and defensively.'
(His assessment of USC's defensive effort against Utah) 'We had spurts where we played very well. There were also spurts where they broke us down. But we learned from the game, watched the film and now we move on to Northridge.
(On Brian Scalabrine's quick start against Utah and whether Bibby goes out of his way to get Brian's game jumpstarted) 'He's a very good player. I don't look to get him going. He'll get his game going on his own. I try to get others going more than Brian. Guys like Brandon Granville and David Bluthenthal. I'm more concerned about them. Brian had some open shots and he can knock those down. We want him to take those shots.'
(On USC's outside shooting) 'We have some shooters this year. You have to play a Tyler Murphy, a David Bluthenthal, a Brandon Granville. You can't just drop back to stop Sam Clancy or Brian. We can also bring Nate Hair off the bench or Gennaro Busterna. Robert Hutchinson can also knock down a shot. We have an array of players that can shoot, which makes the inside game better. And you can go inside or outside with some of them. David might be our best post player.'
(On what kind of defenses USC has played well this season) 'We haven't played a lot of anything well. We did some things I hadn't seen before against Utah. We switched assignments well. I hadn't seen that before. The guys worked hard against Utah. Good things happen when they work hard.'
(On Tyler Murphy) 'He's very, very good. He's solid. He's played the way I expected him to. He's not going to kill you with points, but he can make shots. He understands what we're doing and is very unselfish. He fits in to that gap that we have.'
(On Jarvis Turner) 'I'm sure he'd like to start, but we don't need him to. It's best for the team to come off the bench. He can play every position for us. You have to have older guys who can do that kind of thing for you.'
