WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Oregon State University's Nicole Funn was named the Pacific-10 Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Nov. 27-Dec. 4, announced Commissioner Tom Hansen on Monday.
Funn, a 6-0 guard, averaged 25.5 points and 9.5 rebounds in OSU's two road victories against Ohio University and Marquette University. On the week, she shot 55-percent (18-of-33) from the field and 75-percent (15-of-20) from the free throw line to help the Beavers improve to 5-0 on the season.
In last Thursday's 99-72 win over Ohio University, Funn scored a career-high 35 points on 12-of-19 shooting (63-percent) and tied her career-high with 10 rebounds for her first ever double-double. The Carson, Calif., native, broke her previous scoring best of 18 points, in the first half, as she poured in 21 points on 10-of-14 shooting. In Saturday's 64-50 victory over Marquette, Funn reached double figures in scoring for the fifth time this season with 16 points and led all players in rebounding with eight boards.
Funn, a sophomore, leads the undefeated Beavers in both scoring (19.6 ppg), and rebounding (7.8 rpg).
The Pac-10 Player of the Week honor is the first of Funn's career and Oregon State's 21st Player of the Week award winner of all-time.
Oregon State returns to the court on Sunday afternoon against Saint Mary's College, in a battle of the unbeatens. The Beavers and the Gaels put their 5-0 records to the test at 1:05 p.m. in Gill Coliseum.
