Ryan Nelsen And Lee Morrison Named All-Americans
Dec. 7, 2000
MISSION, Kansas - Stanford senior midfielder Ryan Nelsen was named to the NSCAA/adidas All-America First Team while junior defender Lee Morrison earned Second Team accolades, as announced at the Men's College Cup today in Charlotte, N.C.
Nelsen, from Christchurch, New Zealand, was also selected as the Pacific-10 Player of the Year after scoring five goals and six assists for a Stanford squad that finished 18-3-1 and advanced to the National Quarterfinals. This is Nelsen's first appearance on an All-America team. Morrison, a First Team All-Pac-10 performer, anchored a Cardinal defense that allowed just 10 goals while posting a nation-low 0.44 GAA. Morrison also finished third in the voting for the Missouri Athletic Club Player of the Year award behind Duke's Ali Curtis and Connecticut's Chris Gbandi.
Stanford's 18 wins in 2000 tied the all-time school record, while the National Quarterfinal berth was the second in program history.
