Five Bruins Selected in Inaugural WUSA Draft

Los Angeles -- Five UCLA women's soccer players were selected in the inaugural Women's United Soccer Association (WUSA) draft, held Dec. 10-11 in Boca Raton, Fla.

Former Bruin Skylar Little (1996-99) headed the list of Bruins selected, taken in the fourth round (26th overall pick) by the Washington Freedom. Joining Little in Washington will be 2000 Pac-10 Player of the Year Tracey Milburn and Louise Lieberman (1995-98). Milburn was taken in the ninth round (71st overall) and Lieberman was a 15th round selection (119th overall).

Also drafted was 2000 College Cup All-Tournament team member Venus James by the Bay Area CyberRays. James, who is from Oakland, was taken in the 11th round (88th overall).

Former Bruin Traci Arkenberg-Gatell (1994-97) was picked in the seventh round (50th overall) by the San Diego Sprint. Arkenberg-Gatell, the 1997 Pac-10 Player of the Year and NSCAA All-American, holds the UCLA career records for points (169), goals scored (71), assists (27), game-winning goals (26) and shots (451).
