Elisabeth Bachman Named to Verizon Academic All-America Second Team

Dec. 12, 2000

LOS ANGELES - Elisabeth Bachman, the senior co-captain of UCLA's elite eight women's volleyball team, has been named to the Verizon Academic All-America second team, it was announced today. Bachman is the first Bruin to be named an Academic All-American since Kelly Flannigan was chosen as third-team honoree in 1995. She is the third Bruin women's volleyball player ever to earn the national honor, joining Flannigan and Julie Bremner, who was a third-team honoree in 1992 and a first-team honoree in 1993.

Bachman completed an outstanding senior season Saturday night in Madison, WI, posting her second career double-double with 16 kills and 10 blocks (2 solo/8 assists) in UCLA's 15-7, 5-15, 16-14, 14-16, 15-12 loss to Wisconsin in the NCAA Mideast Regional Final.

A communications studies major with a 3.65 GPA, Bachman is on schedule to receive her degree from UCLA in June, 2001. She completes her Bruin volleyball career with a Bruin and Pac-10 record .362 career attack percentage (1308 kills-306 errors-2770 total attacks). Her 1308 kills ranks 13th on UCLA's all-time list, while she is second in career solo blocks (124), block assists (498) and total blocks (622). Bachman is the first Bruin and fifth Pac-10 player ever to record both 1,200 career kills and 600 career total blocks.

UCLA finished its 2000 season with a 25-8 overall record, and was one of just three schools to reach the Elite Eight in both 1999 and 2000, along with UCSB and 1999 NCAA Champion Penn State.
