Denver Upsets Men's Basketball, 54-53

DENVER - Sophomore guard B.J. Pratt hit a pair of free throws with4.3 seconds left to lead the University of Denver men's basketball team to a 54-53 upset win over Oregon State in non-conference action at Magness Arena on Dec. 13. The win is the second in three games for Denver (3-4). It was the Beavers' fourth consecutive loss.
Pratt scored 17 of Denver's 28 second-half points on his way to a game-high 24. The Pioneers gave up a season-low 53 points to the Beavers, who also scored their fewest points this season. Denver also out-rebounded Oregon State by a 30-27 margin, and shot a season-high 78.6 percent from the line.
Heide led the Beavers with 18 points and 7 rebounds. Haywood and Deaundra Turner (10 points each) were the game's only other players in double figures.
Oregon State led by three (29-26) at the half, but Pratt tied the game at 33 with his second of four 3-pointers with 14 minutes, 2 seconds to go in the game. The Pioneers took their first lead of the half less than a minute later on a jumper by junior Sherman Rochell during a 16-4 Pioneer run spanning six minutes in the middle of the second half.
The Beavers regained the lead at 52-49 on a 3-pointer from center Jason Heide with 2:32 to play, and after both teams traded free throws, Pratt pulled the Pioneers within one (53-52) on a layup with 41.6 seconds left. Pratt then rebounded a last-possession jumper by Jimmy Haywood and was fouled by Heide with 4.3 seconds left to set up the winning free throws.
The Beavers are next in action Saturday when they play Wyoming in Casper, Wyo., with tip-off scheduled for 9:00 p.m.
