TEMPE, Ariz. -- Arizona State University senior volleyball player Amanda Burbridge was a two-year All-Pacific-10 Conference player, an Academic All-American and leaves ASU as one of the best outside hitters in school history. On Wednesday, Burbridge earned her most prestigious honor when she became only the fifth player in ASU history to be named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association's annual All-American team.

Burbridge (Scottsdale) was picked to the AVCA second team, putting her name amongst the top 10 outside hitters in the nation. The senior finished her four-year career third in kills with 1,597 and was only the second player in school history to record at least 1,500 kills and more than 1,000 digs. Ironically, the only other player to match those numbers is current assistant coach Christine Garner, who was ASU's last All-American, earning second-team honors in 1995.

During her senior year in 2000, Burbridge averaged 5.55 kills per game in leading the Sun Devils to an 18-12 record, advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Her 599 total kills destroyed a nine-year old record and her 415 digs ranks eighth in single-season history. She was selected as the AVCA/Sports Imports National Player of the Week (Oct. 23) after she broke the school record in consecutive nights with 39 and 38 kills respectively vs. Washington and Washington State.

'This is a real honor and a nice way to end my career at Arizona State,' said Burbridge, a sociology major who will graduate a semester early when she walks at commencement Thursday. 'It is great to see all the hard work pay off and to have my name mentioned among the top players in the nation.'

Burbridge was one of five Pac-10 players listed on the 2000 All-American team, including Arizona's Dana Burkholder and Stanford's Logan Tom who both made the first team. USC's April Ross and Jennifer Pahl joined Burbridge on the second team. Arizona State's other three All-Americans are Christy Nore (1988), Tammy Webb (1986) and Regina Stahl (1986).
