Washington St. Falls To Utah, 87-63

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Phil Cullen scored a career-high 21 points as Utahdefeated Washington State 87-63 Saturday night.
The Utes (5-4) led Washington State (5-4) by as many as 24 points in thefirst half on their way to breaking their first three-game losing streak sincethe 1988-89 season.
Cullen, who is from Chelan, Wash., made 5-of-6 3-point attempts and grabbedsix rebounds in his first start after spending three games coming off thebench.
Bolstered by 61 percent shooting, the Utes returned to their winning ways athome after Weber State ended Utah's best-in-the-nation winning streak at 54games last Saturday.
Milton Riley's free throws midway through the second half cut Utah's lead to60-45. But Nate Althoff scored four points in a 9-1 run to make it 69-46 with8:27 to play.
A minute later, Britton Johnsen capped another 9-1 run with a dunk to liftUtah to a 78-49 advantage.
Kevin Bradley had 12 points while Johnsen finished with 11 and his brotherJeff had 10 for the Utes, who have won 11 in a row against Washington State.
Eddie Miller, the only senior on the WSU team, scored 17 points but just twoafter halftime. Marcus Moore added 14 for the Cougars.
Utah made 39-of-48 free throws in the foul-plagued contest. The teamscombined to commit 57 fouls and shoot 80 free throws.
After Cullen's 3-pointer with 12:05 left in the first half, the Cougars hadas many turnovers as points and trailed Utah 18-5.
