Women's Tennis Begins 2001 Season Ranked 12th

Los Angeles -- The USC women's tennis team will begin the 2001 season at No. 12 according to the WingspanBank.com Preseason Collegiate Tennis Rankings issued by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). The Women of Troy kickoff the dual match season on Jan. 17 against UC Irvine. The match will be played at Marks Tennis Stadium at 1:30 p.m.

USC also boasts two top-ranked singles players, including the 2000 South Region Champion, Jewel Peterson, who enters the season ranked ninth. Sophomore transfer Maureen Diaz is ranked No. 99.

Among the nation's top doubles teams, Diaz and freshman Melissa Esmero will begin 2001 at No. 15.
