Crabb & Macdonald Compete at Olympic Trials Qualifier
STANFORD, Calif. - Although the collegiate slate has been over for two weeks, University of Oregon freshman Eri Macdonald and senior Katie Crabb continued their seasons Saturday at the Olympic Trials Qualifier at Stanford University.
In the 1,500, Crabb of Chico, Calif., finished fifth (4:21.64) and tops among collegians, while Nike Farm Team's Mary Cobb won in a time of 4:15.83.
Honolulu, Hawaii native Macdonald finished sixth in the 800 in a time of 2:09.06 - her second-fastest time of the year behind her 2:08.62 clocking from April's Oregon Invitational. Sacramento Track Club's Nicole Teter won the race (2:05.44), with former Duck Vicky Fleschner second (2:06.53).
In the 5,000, a pair of former Ducks - Asics runner Annette Hand (first, 16:01.77) and Nike's Marie Davis (eighth, 16:22.21) - also competed.
Macdonald will next compete in the 800 at the USA Junior Track and Field Championships in Denton, Texas, Fri.-Sat., June 23-24.
Also this week, a trio of former Duck men - Steve Fein, Karl Keska and Nick Rogers - will compete in the 5,000 at the Prefontaine Classic at Hayward Field, Saturday, June 24 (www.preclassic.com). The meet begins at 11:45 a.m. (PDT) and will be televised live by CBS-TV from noon - 1 pm.
