Jan. 4, 2001
CORVALLIS, Ore. -
The Oregon State gymnastics team is ranked 12th in the preseason coaches poll, which is selected by the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches.
The Beavers were also picked eighth by Sports Illustrated for Women.
Defending national champion UCLA was picked No. 1 in both polls, while Georgia was selected No. 2 in both polls as well.
Oregon State's 2001 schedule features 10 teams that are ranked in the preseason coaches poll. The Beavers open the season on the road next week with meets at No. 3 Michigan on Friday, January 12 and No. 6 Nebraska on Sunday, January 14.
The Beavers, who finished 10th at the NCAA Championships last season, make their 2001 home debut against No. 11 Arizona State on Friday, January 19.
Although the team won't compete in Corvallis until that meet against ASU, fans will have a chance to meet the team this weekend.
The Beavers will hold a 'Meet the Team' from 5:30-6:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 6 in the third floor of the Valley Football Center. The gymnasts will be available for autographs and to talk with fans. The event precedes a key wrestling match-up between No. 14 Oregon State and No. 3 Iowa in Gill Coliseum at 7:30 p.m.
