No. 20 USC Cruises Past Washington

LOS ANGELES - David Bluthenthal scored 21 of his 25 points in the firsthalf when No. 20 USC shot 75 percent and went on to an 87-61victory over Washington on Saturday night.

Bluthenthal tied his career high with five 3-pointers - accounting for halfof the Trojans' long-range baskets. The only shot he missed in the first halfwas from half-court at the buzzer, while also making 5 of 6 free throws.

The Trojans (12-2, 2-0 Pac-10) won their 10th straight at the Sports Arena,including eight this season - their longest streak at home since winning 16consecutive in the 1992 and '93 seasons.

Washington (6-8, 0-2) limped out of Los Angeles winless after the firstweekend of Pac-10 play, and with a four-game losing streak intact.

Will Perkins led the Huskies with 12 points.

So hot were the Trojans that Washington shot 50 percent in the first halfand still trailed by 21 at the break.

USC made 17 of its first 18 shots, despite Brandon Granville, BrianScalabrine and Sam Clancy not starting as punishment for violating team rulesFriday. Scalabrine and Clancy finished with 15 points each.

The Trojans led by eight when the trio entered the game at 14:24. Scalabrineand Clancy helped out in a 26-3 run, including 10 straight, that put USC ahead41-14. Three times the Trojans scored off steals, Clancy dunked off an alleyoop pass and Scalabrine hit a hook.

Bluthenthal also had 10 points in the spurt that produced USC's largest leadof the half.

The Trojans picked up where they left off to start the second half, scoringthe first six points, capped by Bluthenthal's steal and dunk.

The Huskies never got closer than 19 points, and trailed by 30 after anine-point scoring burst by USC with 3:50 left.

USC's Jeff Trepagnier, who returned Thursday from a nine-game suspensionduring an NCAA investigation, did not dress after injuring his left ankleagainst Washington State.
