STANFORD graces the top spot in both polls this week. With ARIZONAholding the No. 1 spot earlier this season, the Pac-10 is the firstconference to have two teams ranked No. 1 in the AP poll during the sameseason since the ACC (North Carolina and Duke) pulled the feat duringthe 1997-98 season. . . PAC-10 CO-PLAYERS OF THE WEEK - JARRON and JASON COLLINS
STANFORD twins Jarron and Jason Collins have been named the Pacific-10Conference Men's Basketball Co-Players of the Week for the week of Jan.2-7, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

The Collins twins, from North Hollywood, Calif., combined to average36.0 points and 17.0 rebounds, while shooting 22-for-37 (.595) from the fieldand 27-for-30 (.900) from the free throw line in a sweep of the Arizonaschools.

Senior forward Jarron tallied 16 points (6-7 FG, 4-4 FT) and ninerebounds against Arizona State, while adding 22 points (7-14 FG, 7-9 FT)and nine rebounds at Arizona. Sophomore forward Jason tallied 15 points(4-6 FG, 7-7 FT) and four rebounds at Arizona State, then posted 19points (5-10 FG, 9-10 FT) and 12 rebounds against Arizona.

It is the second weekly award for Jason, the first for Jarron, and the27th all-time honor for the Trojans.

ARIZONA - In the last seven days, Arizona has lost two of three games atMcKale Center. It is the first time since the 1983-84 season (LuteOlson's first at Arizona) that the Wildcats have lost two home games ina seven-day period, when the squad actually lost three (Jan. 7, 61-58 toUCLA, Jan. 12, 55-53 to Washington, Jan. 14, 51-49 to Washington State)... Saturday's nine-point loss to Stanford equaled the third-worst homeloss for the Wildcats since 1983-84. Here are the others: 12 -Tennessee 61, UA 49, Dec. 23, 1983, 10 - UCLA 71, UA 61, Jan. 19, 1995, 9 -Syracuse 79, UA 70, Dec. 23, 1995, 9 - Stanford 85, UA 76, Jan. 6, 2001... Sophomore guard Jason Gardner leads the Pac-10 with 36 three-pointfield goals. His 44.4 percent shooting percentage from beyond the arcranks 8th.

ARIZONA STATE - ASU hits the road for the first time in Pac-10 play withits trip to Washington this weekend, as the Sun Devils were 3-1 in roadovertime games last year, just one win short of the NCAA record. If theASU-Washington State game goes into overtime, history favors the SunDevils, as ASU is 5-1 against the Cougars in overtime. ASU has asix-game winning streak against the Cougars and also swept Washingtonlast year for the first time since 1995. ASU's road sweep of theWashington schools last year was its first road sweep in the Pac-10since 1996... Sophomore swingman Tanner Shell, who was ASU's third-leadingscorer in Pac-10 play last year at 9.1 ppg, is out for the season with abroken bone in his left hand... Senior guard Alton Mason, who averaged27.5 points in the two games against Stanford and Cal, has 45 assistsand just 15 turnovers on the year.

CALIFORNIA - Senior forward Sean Lampley has led the Bears in scoring ineach of the last nine games and in 11 of 13 games for the season,averaging 18.4 points per game (2nd in the Pac-10). Lampley has scoredat least 20 points in three consecutive games and four of the last sixgames - in the other two games he scored 19 vs. Yale and 18 vs. Coppin State...The win by Cal over Arizona State in Tempe was the first road win bythe Bears in Tempe since a 68-66 win over the Sun Devils during the 1990season... Junior forward Solomon Hughes is shooting 18-for-23 (.783)from the field over the last four games. He leads the Pac-10 with a .708shooting percentage.

OREGON - Oregon's 10-1 start is its best in Ernie Kent's four years ashead coach... The Ducks have scored at least 82 points in six of theirlast seven games... With his 28-point performance vs. Oregon Statelast Saturday, senior forward Bryan Bracey has scored at lease 20-points insix of 11 games played this season... The Ducks have won four of thelast five meetings with California, but will look to snap a streak atStanford where they have lost 14 straight to the Cardinal - their lastwin in Maples Pavilion came during the 1986 season.

OREGON STATE - Senior guard Deaundra Tanner is shooting 16-of-31 (516)from the field to average 22.5 points over the past two games. . . Overthe last six games, OSU starters have accounted for 301 of the team's360 points (83.6 percent)... The Beavers lead the Pac-10 in scoringdefense at 58.8 points per game.

STANFORD - With the win at Arizona, Mike Montgomery picked up his 300thvictory at Stanford... Prior to its games in Arizona, the Cardinalwere shooting .717 from the line. Thanks to a 57-for-69 performance againstArizona State and Arizona, Stanford bumped that percentage to .736 fromthe charity stripe (2nd in the Pac-10)... The Cardinal are shooting21-of 46 (.457) from three-point range over the last three games.

UCLA - Steve Lavin needs two victories to reach 100 wins at UCLA. . .With their win over Washington State, the Bruins ran their record to44-0 against Washington State in games played in Los Angeles, 36-0 in gamesat Pauley Pavilion... Junior center Dan Gadzuric now has fourdouble/doubles this season (including two in the last three games)...With 13 assists last weekend vs. the Washington schools, senior guardEarl Watson ran his career assist total to 508. He needs five assists topass Roy Hamilton for fifth on the UCLA career chart. He needs 47 tocrack the Pac-10's top-ten list... UCLA hosts USC Thursday in PauleyPavilion where the Bruins have won seven in row over the Trojans.

USC - Junior forward Sam Clancy (4th-17.2ppg), senior forward BrianScalabrine (7th-16.4 ppg) and junior forward David Bluthenthal(10th-15.4 ppg) all rank in the top 10 in Conference scoring. Clancy also leads thePac-10 with 32 blocks... Junior guard Brandon Granville leads thePac-10 in steals and assists with 31 and 81, respectively... USC hasalready scored 90 points four times this season. The USC record is 10back in 1975... With the win over WSU last week, USC is now 4-1 underHenry Bibby in Pac-10 openers.

WASHINGTON - Washington has won the last four games played againstArizona State in Bank of America Arena at Hec Edmundson Pavilion. TheHuskies have knocked off Arizona in five of the last nine meetings atBank of America Arena. Each of those five wins came against an Arizonateam ranked No. 12 or better... Freshman guard C.J. Massingale scored25 points against UCLA, a season-high for the Huskies... The Huskieshave been led in scoring in 13 of 14 games this season by either ThaloGreen or Will Perkins.

WASHINGTON STATE - Junior guard Mike Bush has led WSU in scoring in allthree games since he's been back, averaging 18.3 points per game duringthat span... Sophomore guard David Adams ranks 10th in the Conferencein steals with 16... With the loss to USC, Washington State has nowlost three straight for the first time this year... When WSU facesArizona this week, it will try and snap a 30-game losing streak thatdates back to 1985-86.

BOBBI OLSON
The Arizona Wildcat basketball family suffered a great loss last week,as Bobbi Olson died peacefully Monday morning (01/01/01), surrounded by herfamily, from complications related to ovarian cancer. She was 65. Aspecial memorial fund has been established in Bobbi Olson's name at theArizona Cancer Center, where she had undergone treatment since herillness was diagnosed in June 1998. Contributions can be made payable tothe Arizona Cancer Center/UAF and mailed to Arizona Cancer CenterDevelopment, P.O. Box 245013, Tucson, AZ 85724-5013. . . In her honor,Lute Olson Court was renamed Lute & Bobbi Olson Court.
