TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Nationally ranked for the first time this season, Arizona tries to prove itbelongs there in its Pac-10 home opener on Thursday against Washington State.

The 22nd-ranked Wildcats (12-2, 2-0) completed a sweep of the Bay Areaschools on Saturday with a 68-65 victory over No. 21 Stanford.

Junior forward Elizabeth Pickney scored 18 points and senior guard ResheaBristol added 14 points, eight assists and five steals for Arizona, which haswon five straight and 11 of its last 12 games.

Bristol captured her second straight Pac-10 player of the week award onMonday, averaging 22.0 points, 6.5 assists, 4.5 steals, 4.0 rebounds and 1.0blocks in leading the Wildcats to two wins.

The second half has been kind to Arizona this season. The Wildcats average37.2 points per game during the first half, while outscoring opponents by 4.8points. However, they average 44.6 points over the final 20 minutes, outscoringfoes by 11.6 points.

Pickney has taken over the team scoring lead with 16.1 points per game andis second in rebounding at 6.4 per game. Freshman forward Veranda James is thesecond-leading scorer at 15.3 points and has the team's top rebounding averageat 8.5 per game.

Washington State (7-5, 2-0) made it four wins in five games with a 74-52rout of UCLA on Saturday.

Kelley Berglund scored a game-high 17 points and junior center BrittneyHawks added 13 as the Cougars overcame a season-high 34 turnovers by shooting aseason-best 54.5 percent (24-of-44) from the field.

Averaging 10.3 points and 5.8 rebounds per game, Hawks leads WashingtonState in both categories. While Hawks is the only Cougar with a double-digitscoring average, four other players are posting more than seven points pergame.

The Cougars lead the all-time series 16-12, but have dropped the last threemeetings to the Wildcats.
