No. 2 Men's Swimming and Diving Take On CS-Bakersfield In Dual Action

THIS WEEK: The second-ranked Stanford men's swimming and diving program will face off against CS Bakersfield this Friday, January 12 at 2 p.m. at the Avery Aquatic Center, located on the Stanford campus. The Cardinal enter the meet with a 2-0 dual record while the Roadrunners come in at 0-1.

ORDER OF EVENTS:400 medley relay (3:12.97), 1000 freestyle (NA), 200 freestyle (1:36.39), 50 freestyle (19.74), 200 IM (1:47.16), One-Meter Diving (290), 200 butterfly (1:45.46), 100 freestyle (43.64), 200 backstroke (1:44.38), 500 freestyle (4:20.75), Three-Meter Diving (310), 200 breaststroke (1:58.28), 400 freestyle relay (2:55.37). Scoring Individual Events: 1st-9, 2nd-4, 3rd-3, 4th-2, 5th-1, Scoring Relays: 1st-11, 2nd-4, 3rd-2, 4th-0.

LAST TIME OUT: Last week, Stanford defeated Michigan, 135-100, in dual meet action. Seniors Adam Messner and Steven Brown each picked up two wins in individual events. Messner took top honors in the 200 free and 500 free whie Brown won both the 200 IM and 200 fly. Freshman Bobby O'Bryan took first in the 50 free and 100 free for the Cardinal. Fellow freshman Markus Rogan took top honors in the 200 back as well. Stanford sophomore diver Gavin Olmstead finished second in both the one-meter and three-meter events.

ABOUT CS BAKERSFIELD: Cal State Bakersfield enters the meet with an 0-1 dual record ... they are coached by Bob Steele ... the Roadrunners are led by sophomore Vlastimil Burda, who swam for the Czech Republic in the 2000 Summer Olympics ... Burda recently finished 14th at the European Championships last week.

UP NEXT: Stanford, defending 2000 Pac-10 Champions, opens up league action, traveling to Arizona to take on Arizona State on Friday, January 19 in Tempe then going to Tucson to face Arizona on Saturday, January 20.

NOTES FROM AROUND THE POOL: Stanford already has two swimmers who have qualified for NCAAs this year. Sophomore Randall Bal has qualified for NCAAs in the 100 back with a time of 47.81 at the Aggie Invitational (11/17) and freshman Michael Bruce has qualified in the 200 breast with a time of 1:57.85 also at the Aggie Invitational (11/18) ... the Cardinal is 1-0 in the newly renamed Avery Aquatic Center ... senior Adam Messner remains undefeated in the 200 free and 500 free this season.
