No.1-Ranked Women's Tennis Has Solid Showing To Open Pac-10 Indoor Tournament

SEATTLE, Wash. - The No. 1 ranked Stanford women's tennis team had a strong outing in the opening day of the ninth annual Pac-10 Indoor Tennis Tournament today held at the Lloyd Nordstrom Tennis Center on the University of Washington campus.

In singles play, No. 20 Laura Granville (Chicago, IL), the defending NCAA Singles Champion, swept Lindsay Blau of Arizona 6-0, 6-0, while No. 21 Keiko Tokuda (Clifton, NJ) defeated Washington's Darija Klaic 7-5, 6-0. Sarah Pestieau (New York, NY), Stanford's lone senior, was also a first-round winner as she defeated Vickie Gunnarsson of Oregon 6-1, 6-4.

Freshman Emilia Anderson (Cincinnati, OH) picked up her first tournament win as a Cardinal when she defeated Erin Hoe of Washington 6-4, 6-7, 6-4. Freshman Lauren Barnikow (Woodbridge, NJ) came up short against Arizona's Debbie Larocque 7-6 (4), 3-6, 6-1.

Doubles play was scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m., but was pushed back to approximately 10:00 p.m. First round doubles results will be available on Saturday.

All nine Pac-10 teams that sponsor women's tennis (Oregon State does not) are represented in the event, which features four singles flights and three doubles flights. The top three singles flights only will include a consolation bracket.

The three-day event will continue on Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m. and concludes on Sunday afternoon.
