Sun Devil Diving Teams Make A Splash

TUCSON, Ariz. -- Natalie Burgess' second-place 258.95 in the 3-meter highlighted the performances of Arizona State's diving teams at the Arizona Invitational at the Hillenbrand Aquatic Center in Tucson, Ariz., Friday.

Burgess, a senior from Phoenix, finished runner-up to Arizona's Adrian David, who accumulated a 263.7 in the event. Burgess also competed in the 1-meter, taking fifth with 229.6. Sun Devil freshman Jessica Stensen finished fourth in the 1-meter at 230, while taking 10th in the 3-meter with 217.95.

Both women's dives boasted of fields of 13, with athletes hailing from either ASU, Arizona or Northern Arizona.

The men were well-represented by senior Marc Briggs and freshman Gordon Blukis. In the 1-meter, Briggs and Blukis finished three-four with total scores of 294.1 and 289.2, respectively. Then, in the 3-meter, Briggs and Blukis finished four-five with respective sums of 303 and 298.8.

Both men's fields consisted of nine competitors hailing from ASU, Arizona and BYU. Arizona's Ruben Vaca won in both disciplines, taking the 1-meter with a 323.65, and the 3-meter with a 312.6.
