Ryan Haviland To Play For Singles Title At Sherwood Collegiate Cup

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - Stanford men's tennis player Ryan Haviland (Sumter,SC/Sumter HS) advanced to the singles finals of the Sherwood Collegiate Cup on Sunday held at the Sherwood Country Club.
Haviland defeated UCLA's Tobias Clemens 7-5, 7-5 in the quarterfinals before handing Erfan Djahangiri of UCLA a 6-1, 7-5 loss in the semis. Haviland is scheduled to play Julien Rojer of UCLA in the finals on Monday at 10:00 a.m.
David Martin (Key Biscayne, FL/Boca Raton Prep) won his quarterfinal match over UCLA's Erik Dmytruk 7-5, 4-6, 6-2. In the semifinals, Martin came up short as UCLA's Rojer was a 6-3, 7-5 winner.
All three of the Cardinal doubles teams competing in the tournament advanced to the semifinals. In first round action, Carter Morris (Washington D.C./St. Alban's HS) and Haviland defeated USC's Ryan Moore and Nick Rainey 9-8. In the quarters, Morris and Haviland teamed up for an 8-5 win over Cal's Ben Miles and Robert Kowachek.
Martin and Scott Lipsky (Merrick,NY/Bellmore-Kennedy HS) were first-round winners over John Paul Fruttero and Balazs Veress of Cal by the score of 8-4. Martin and Lipsky then defeated Jean Noel Grinda and Julien Rojer of UCLA 8-6.
Ali Ansari (Houston,TX/Second Baptist HS) and Scotty Scott (Belvedere,MD/ Pinewood School), who won their first round match on Saturday, also won in the quarterfinals today, defeating Parker Collins and Ruben Torres of USC 8-5.
The doubles semifinals are scheduled for 12:00 on Monday.
