Pat Murphy To Chat Live Online
Jan. 17, 2001
TEMPE, Ariz. - On Wednesday, January 24, Arizona State University head baseball coach Pat Murphy will make a special visit to the ESPN.com moderated chat room to talk about the upcoming baseball season that begins Jan. 26 against the University of Texas-Arlington.
The Arizona State baseball team is ranked sixth in both the Baseball America and Collegiate Baseball preseason polls and are the defending Pac-10 Champions after going 44-15 in 2000. The 2001 squad features 15 returning letterwinners, including the return of the entire starting infield and All-Americans Casey Myers (C) and Jon Switzer (LHP).
Murphy, who is starting his seventh season in Tempe at the helm of the Sun Devil program, has continued the storied tradition of Sun Devil baseball. After taking a Notre Dame program from rags to riches and a perennial national power, Murphy arrived at ASU in 1995 and has since left his mark on college baseball as one of the top coaches in the nation. The 1998 Baseball America Coach of the Year and 2000 Pac-10 Coach of the Year, Murphy has won 65% of his games in Tempe (232-123). A mastermind and teacher on the field, Murphy has also turned ASU baseball into an academic powerhouse with four Academic All-Americans in the last two years. Add to that the fact ASU has finished in the top 12 in the nation in three of the last four years and you have a Murphy led program that stands as one of the top programs in the nation.
Coach Murphy won't be stopping by until 12:00 p.m. MT on Wednesday, January 24, but feel free to leave your questions now and we will save them for his arrival.
