Torreon, Mexico -- Washington State University freshman swimmer Tatiana Maristany recently made quite a splash at the Mexican National Short Course Championships. There, Maristany claimed victory in three events and established a national record at the meet held December 15-17.

Maristany, a native of Mexico City, won the 200-meter backstroke in a time of 2:23.30. She also swam on the victorious 200-meter freestyle and 400-meter medley relay teams. Her 400 medley team established a national record with a time of 4:28.30.

'The meet helped me gain confidence about how fast I can swim going into Pac-10's,' Maristany said. 'It felt really good to get up and swim fast in a big meet.'

Maristany also placed seventh in the 100-meter freestyle and 200-meter individual medley, and swam on the second-place 400-meter freestyle relay team.
