No. 12 Oregon Wrestling Falls To No. 11 Boise State

The University of Oregon wrestling team, ranked No. 12/15 this week (NWCA Coaches Poll/Intermat) lost its first Pac-10 dual of the season, falling 18-12 to No. 11/10 Boise State in front of 517 fans at McArthur Court Friday. The Ducks are 7-4 overall, 3-1 Pac-10 and the Broncos improve to 3-1, 2-0.
The two teams were so evenly matched that neither gave up bonus points and three matches were decided in overtime. Two other matches, 149 and 157, were decided by one point.
'Boise State is a tough team,' Oregon head coach Chuck Kearney said. 'They wrestle hard and we were in positions so many times to do some positive things, but we just didn't get it done.'
The match began at 174 with Pat Owens defeating Oregon freshman Luke Larwin 8-5. No. 7 Doug Lee (184) tied the match at three with a 10-6 decision against Boise State's Cash Edwards, who is ranked No. 8 this week.
At 197, senior All-American Chael Sonnen lost a 4-2 overtime decision to Rusty Cook and the Broncos took the lead again, 6-3. Oregon tied the match one last time with Eric Webb's (heavyweight) 7-3 win over Bart Johnson. The Bronco's went on to win the next three matches to take a 15-6 lead.
Tony Overstake (149) narrowly defeated Colin Robertson, 7-6, to stall a Boise State win-streak was unable to pull ahead. Leif Williams ended the match on a positive note for Oregon, defeating Casey Eager, 9-5.
