STANFORD, Calif. - On Wednesday, as part of the 'Weekly Pac-10 Women's Hoops Chat', Stanford freshman Nicole Powell will drop by to take your questions.
Powell, from Phoenix, Ariz., is having a tremendous freshman year for the 7-7 Cardinal (1-3 Pac-10). She has started 14 games, the last five at point guard after Susan King went down with a season-ending injury. Powell leads the Pac-10 in rebounding, averaging 7.9 boards per game, and ranks ninth in the conference in scoring, averaging 12.9 per game, a team-high for Stanford. In 10 of the last 11 games, Powell has scored in double figures. She is averaging a double-double in Pac-10 action, with 15.0 points and 10.0 rebounds. Powell is a true leader of the Cardinal, especially in the following statistical categories: scoring (12.9 ppg), rebounds (7.9 rpg), assists (110) and steals (27).
Powell came to Stanford as one of the top recruits in the country. She was a 2000 Parade Magazine First Team All-American. She was a starting forward for the USA Baseball Women's Junior World Championship Qualifying Team that won the gold medal this July in Mar Del Plata, Argentina. While on the team she averaged 8.2 points and a team-high 6.4 rebounds. She also had a very productive high school career setting school records for career points (2,478) and rebounds (1,760).
Powell won't be stopping by until Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. PT, but feel free to fire off your questions now. We'll save them until she gets there.
