Softball Ranked No. 16 In NFCA Preseason Poll

COLUMBIA, MO - Oregon State University's softball team is ranked No. 16 in the USA Today/National Fastpitch Coaches Association Preseason Top-25, announced Wednesday morning.

The Beavers received 261 votes in the poll, while No. 1 ranked UCLA garnered 655 votes and 13 first place points.

All eight Pacific-10 Conference teams are ranked in the preseason Top-20.

OSU finished the 2000 season with a 40-21-1 record and qualified for the NCAA Regional Tournament for the second consecutive year before losing to eventual National Champion, Oklahoma. The Beavers' season-long success earned a No. 12 national ranking in the final NFCA poll.

Oregon State will put its No. 16 ranking to the test on February 3, when the Beavers face Brigham Young University in the opening game of the Southern Utah Tournament.

The USA Today/NFCA poll is voted on by 27 Division I coaches, representing all areas of the United States. First-place votes are in parentheses. Records are from the 2000 season. LY is the team's ranking in the final 2000 Top-25.
