BRUINS' MOHINI BHARDWAJ NAMED PAC-10 GYMNAST OF THE WEEK
UCLA senior Mohini Bhardwaj has been named Pac-10 Gymnast of the Week for
January 15-21.

Bhardwaj, the returning All-American and NCAA bars champion from Cincinnati, Ohio,
scored her second perfect 10 on floor exercise enabling the Bruins to post this
year's highest team score in the nation against Utah on Jan. 21.

Bhardwaj tied Pauley Pavilion records in the all-around and floor and tied her career
high scores on floor (10.0) and beam (9.925).

Bhardwaj led the Bruins to a win against the Cardinal on Jan. 19, placing second on vault
with a score of 9.9. The Bruins 196.925 team total against Stanford was the nation's
second-highest team score. Bhardwaj is riding towards near perfect performances this
year. She is currently averaging 10.0 on vault and already has six first-place finishes
and two second-place finishes in only three competitions.

ALSO NOMINATED: Katrina Severin, OSU, Kara Fry, ARIZONA, Laura Moon, ARIZONA STATE.

* ARIZONA - Arizona fell to 2-7 on the season with fourth place finishes at San Jose
State on Friday and at Cal on Sunday... At Haas Pavilion, SR Kara Fry was the Wildcats top
finisher with scores of 9.825 and 9.850 on bars and beam. JR Randi Liljenquist tied for
first place on floor (9.900) and joined nine of her teammates who posted season and career-
high marks... Freshman Sheehan Lemley, Andi McCabe and Amanda Goins lead the Wildcats home
for its season opener in hopes of winning the duel against Utah next week and setting more
season high scores.

* ARIZONA STATE - The 2,907 fans at Gill Coliseum can attest that if you wanted to watch
a suspense thrillerthis weekend, watching ASU battle OSU was where to go...The 1-2 Sun
Devils pulled off an edge of your seat win to upset OSU 193.750-193.725. The win marked
ASU's first regular-season win over OSU in eight years...JR Laura Moon captured the all-
around (38.875) while JR Rhonda Robinette's 9.825 on beam was the Sun Devils highest
score...The competition stayed close but ASU finally triumphed despite scoring only three
marks at 9.8 or higher to the eight marks of 9.8 or higher posted by OSU.

* CALIFORNIA - The Golden Bears showed that they are clawing their way to the top this
season by winning the inaugural Silicon Valley Classic on Jan. 19 and placing second at
their home opener Jan. 21...In San Jose, Cal won three of the four events to score 194.400
points. Carrie Kreifels, Katreece Stone and Pari Oliver were first place finishers on bars,
beam, and floor respectively...After this standout finish the Bears went home to open their
home season by posting a season high team total of 195.175. No. 13 Oklahoma won the meet
with a score of 195.300...Cal joins the rankings at No. 24 and improves to 5-4 overall and
2-1 in the Conference.

* OREGON STATE - OSU was upset by ASU on Friday despite a strong team effort at home.
The Beavers had eight scores of 9.8 or more and won the vault and floor competition...OSU
gymnasts had a first place sweep on every apparatus with the exception of bars where the
crown was shared...SR Katrina Severin took first place on vault (9.825) floor (9.9) and
beam (9.825t) and SR Stephanie Bychowski followed suit by taking first on bars (9.925) and
beam (9.825t). Both seniors posted career high marks... Fans sat in anticipation for the
entire meet but ASU prevailed as the Beavers fell to 0-3.

* STANFORD - The No. 5 Cardinal nearly held off UCLA at their first Conference meeting
Jan. 19. Freshman standouts Lindsay Wing won the vault with a score of 9.925, while Robin
Phelps and Caroline Flurher tied for first on bars with 9.900... Their scores helped tally
a team total of 98.275, .025 points ahead of UCLA after two rotations...Stanford struggled
on floor scoring 47.300 to UCLA's 49.350 before finally succumbing to the Bruins potent
finale on floor and beam... The Cardinal looks for redemption next week against No. 18
Washington.

* UCLA - Three Bruin gymnasts posted perfect 10's to secure two wins for UCLA against
Stanford on Friday and Utah on Sunday... At home against Utah, SR Mohini Bhardwaj kept the
record keepers busy by scoring her second 10.0 of the season, recording career highs in the
all-around (39.725) and beam (9.925) and tying the Pauley Pavilion records for floor and
all-around... Utah led the competition after one rotation but Bhardwaj and the freshman
trio of Yvonne Tousek, Jamie Dantzscher and Kristen Maloney scored high on floor to pull
away from Utah... UCLA's team score of 197.5 and Bharwaj's 39.725 are the highest in the
nation this year and its win over Utah is the first ever in a regular season meet...
Against No. 5 Stanford, Dantzscher and Kristen Parker scored back to back perfect 10's on floor.

* WASHINGTON - The 3-1 Huskies proved to be an invincible force against Boise State
winning 191.800 to 190.725. In a dramatic come from behind finish, the Huskies rallied
together on floor and scored a 48.650 to overtake Boise State...SR Mandi Klug led the
charge with a career high 9.90 which earned her first place on the event...On beam, FR
Emily Pritchard was one of only four gymnasts to score above 9.50. Her score of 9.775 was
well above the average beam score since both teams were forced to count scores below 9.000
due to falls...Washington's score, albeit victory, was its lowest winning score in three
years.
