Husky Women's Tennis Loses to Top-Ranked Stanford, 1-6

STANFORD, Calif. - The 26th-ranked Washington women's tennis team suffered a loss to top-ranked Stanford, 1-6, on Saturday at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium. The Huskies dropped to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in the Pac-10 Conference, while the Cardinal improves to 4-0 overall.
The Huskies won just one of their nine matches against the Cardinal. In the top position of singles competition, senior 78th-ranked Kristina Kraszewski lost to 20th-ranked Laura Granville, 7-6, 6-2. In the No. 2 position, 28th-ranked sophomore Darija Klaic suffered a loss to 8th-ranked Lauren Kalvaria, 6-3, 6-1, while in the third spot freshman Claire Carter defeated 23rd-ranked Gabriela Lastra in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4. In the fourth position, junior Ilona Kordonskaya lost to Lauren Barnikow, 6-2, 6-2, while 21st-ranked Keiko Tokuda downed 43rd-ranked freshman Erin Hoe, 7-6 (6), 6-4, in the No. 5 spot. Sophomore Andrea Coulter fell to Sarah Pestieau, 6-2, 7-6, in the sixth position.
In the top position of doubles competition, the duo of Klaic and Kraszewski fell to 13th-ranked Barnikow and Kalvaria, 8-6, while Carter and Kordonskaya lost in the second position to 30th-ranked Granville and Lastra, 8-3. Pestieau and Tokuda downed junior Erin Boisclair and Hoe, 8-2, in the third spot.
The Dawgs return home to take on Portland next Saturday, Feb. 3, at the Lloyd Nordstrom Tennis Center.
