Women's Tennis Upsets Fifth-ranked California, 6-3

BERKELEY, Calif. - The 26th-ranked Washington women's tennis team upset the fifth-ranked California Goalden Bears Friday, 6-3, at the Hellman Tennis Courts. Washington improves their record to 2-1. The Dawgs head to Stanford to take on the top-ranked Stanford Cardinal on Saturday at 1 p.m.
In the top position of singles competition, 78th-ranked senior Kristina Kraszewski handed38th-ranked Raquel Kops-Jones her first lost of the dual match season. Kraszewski took the freshman to three sets before downing her, 0-6, 6-4, 6-2. In the No. 2 position, 28th-ranked sophomore Darija Klaic fell to Christina Fusano, 6-2, 7-5, while Jieun Jacobs took charge in the No. 3 spot, downing junior Ilona Kordonskaya, 6-1, 6-2. In the No. 4 position, freshman Claire Carter stopped Catherine Lynch, 6-4, 6-4, while in the fifth spot, 43rd-ranked freshman Erin Hoe defeated Nicole Havlicek in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4. Sophomore Andrea Coulter lost to Sekita Grant in the sixth spot, 6-4, 6-4.
For the first time this season, the Huskies won all three doubles matches. In the top position, Klaic and Kraszewski downed 17th-ranked Havlicek and Jacobs, 8-4. The duo of Kordonskaya and Carter managed to pull out a win against Fusano and Lynch, 9-8, in the second position. Rounding out the doubles portion of the match, Hoe teamed up junior Erin Boisclair to defeat Kops-Jones and Grant, 8-6.
