Oregon Women's Tennis Sweeps Boise State, 6-0
Jan. 28, 2001
EUGENE - With a sweeping 6-0 victory over the Boise State Broncos, the University of Oregon women's tennis team garners its second scoreless win this weekend.
Singles matches were all handled in straight sets as the Ducks readily seized another victory.
Freshman Davina Mendiburu is the only Duck recording her third, straight-sets singles win in the last three matches versus California, UCSB and BSU with her 6-1, 6-1 victory today at No. 5 singles.
'I was pleased with our play today and I couldn't imagine rolling through singles like we did,'said Oregon Head Coach Jack Griffin. 'I was happy for them and the results show.'
The Ducks'continuing fitness improvements served as a key factor in the sweep this weekend.
'We work on fitness and confidence out there. We see that we're the ones getting the free points now, if we're willing to hang in with the competition and execute more wins,' said Griffin.
Up next, the Ducks will battle the University of Portland Sunday, February 4, at the Student Tennis Center in Eugene at 5:00 p.m.
