Seventh-Ranked ASU Women's Tennis Burns #12 USC, 6-1

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The seventh-ranked Arizona State (2-1, 1-1) women's tennis squad handed #12 USC (3-1, 1-1) its first loss of the season with an impressive 6-1 victory over the Trojans at Marks Tennis Stadium.

In doubles action, ASU earned its team point by winning two of the needed three match-ups. ASU's combos of Adria Engel/Karin Palme and Cindy Sureephong/Megan Yeats defeated USC's Maureen Diaz/Melissa Esmero and Anita Loyola/Bernadette Bayani, 8-3, on the No. 2 and 3 courts, respectively.

In singles play, ASU captured five of six singles match-ups. The Trojans' lone single win came from No. 9-ranked Jewel Peterson, who defeated ASU's Adria Engel on court No. 1, 6-3, 6-3. Forty-seventh-ranked sophomore Megan Yeats defeated USC's Maureen Diaz, 6-3, 6-3, on the No. 3 court to improve her record to 11-3.

The Devils will travel to Dallas, Texas on Thursday (Feb. 1) to take part in the National Indoors. The tournament runs through Sunday (Feb. 4).
