Bruins Travel To Reno, Northern Arizona Invites

UCLA women's and men's indoor track and field teams competed Saturday(Jan. 27) in the Penn State Invitational at State College, PA. Next Saturday(Feb. 3), the Bruins will split their teams and travel to two indoor meets, theReno, NV Invite and the Northern Arizona Invite in Flagstaff.
At Penn State, the Bruin women were led by junior Bunmi Ogunleye and UCLA's4 X 400m relays. In the long jump, Ogunleye placed 3rd, with a leap of 19-0.UCLA's two relays in the 4 X 400m placed second (3:45.03) and third (3:46.35).
Other top placements for the Bruin women included: senior Michelle Perryin the 60m hurdles (5th in the final, 8.45, 4th in qualifying, 8.48), in thehigh jump, junior Darnesha Griffith was fifth (5-8.50) and senior Heather Newlintied for sixth (5-6), freshman Sheena Johnson was sixth (38-11.50) in the triplejump and in the 800m, senior Bridie Hatch was sixth (2:09.78) and sophomoreJessica Marr was ninth (2:10.22).
Also competing for the Bruin women: Griffith was 12th (17-11) in the longjump, sophomore Tiffany Burgess was 12th (2:12.04) in the 800m and junior YsanneWilliams was 17th (2:13.81), junior Elaine Canchola was 18th (9:57.27) in the3000m and senior Gina Donnelly was 19th (5:08.31) in the mile.
UCLA's men had three competitors in the distance races: senior WillBernaldo and Paul Muite and junior Andrew Wulf. Bernaldo was fifth (14:24.61) inthe 5000m and in the mile, Muite was 11th (4:12.50) and Wulf was 25th (4:18.59).
