WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- USC forward Ebony Hoffman has been named the Pac-10 Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Jan. 22-28, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Hoffman, from Harbor City, Calif., averaged 15.5 points and 15.5 rebounds to lead USC to its first Pac-10 sweep of the season, with road victories at No. 20 Oregon and Oregon State. Hoffman shot 50.0 percent from the field (12-of-24) and 78.0 percent from the free throw line (7-of-9) en route to posting her first career double-doubles.
Against the Ducks, Hoffman contributed game highs of 19 points and 17 rebounds, the Pac-10 single-game high this season. At Oregon State she followed with 12 points and 14 boards. Hoffman provided the game-winning shots in both of the narrow victories, a 55-53 win over Oregon and a 69-67 overtime win at OSU. Her layup and free throw gave USC its final lead at Oregon with 14 seconds remaining, while her layup with 26 seconds left in overtime put the Women of Troy up for good against the Beavers.
USC (3-4 Pac-10, 8-9 overall) has won three of its last four, including wins over two ranked opponents.
The Player of the Week honor is the first of Hoffman's career and the 27th all-time selection for the Women of Troy. Hoffman is the second freshman to receive the honor this season.
