Alex Aragon Posts Pair Of 70s To Finish In 15th Place At Ping Arizona Intercollegiate

TUCSON, Ariz. - Stanford senior Alex Aragon (Torrey Pines, CA) shot back-to-back rounds of 70 to finish with a one-over par 214 at the Ping Arizona Intercollegiate, hosted by the University of Arizona at The Raven at Sabino Springs golf course (par 71, 6,776 yards).

As a team, Stanford finished in 16th place with a three-round total of 889 (+37). USC ran away with the title, recording an 833 (-19). Cal was second with a three-over 855 while Arizona State (862), Ohio State (862) and South Carolina (863) round out the top five of the 20-team tournament.

Aragon had his best finish of the season in 15th place to lead the Cardinal. Ron Won (Irvine, CA), who was playing as an individual, was second for the Cardinal with a 217 (+4). After an opening round of 72, Won followed with a 74 and a 71 today for 30th place.

Senior Jimmy Lee (Coral Springs, FL) placed 52nd with a 224 (+11). He opened the tournament with a 69, struggled in round two with an 83, and bounced back for a 72 in the final round. Junior Philip Rowe (Cornwall, UK) carded a pair of 77s and a 72 for a 226 (+13), good for 63rd place.

Freshman Blake Mastalir (Englewood, CO) was consistent throughout the tournament, posting a 75 in the opening round and back-to-back rounds of 76 today. He ended up with a 227 total (+14). Senior Eric Dahlberg (Fort Worth, TX), playing as an individual, went 72-81-81 for a 234 total and a 92nd-place finish, while Jim Seki (Honolulu, HI) had a 75, 85 and 82 for a 242 and a 99th-place finish.

The Cardinal is next in action at the John F. Burns Invitational on Feb. 21-23 at Hawaii.
