Speight Leads Ducks With NCAA Provisional Mark

PORTLAND - University of Oregon senior Holly Speight kept her NCAA qualifying streak alive Sunday with a strong, early-season mark at the Great Northwest Indoor Classic at the Portland Expo Center.
The Salem native cleared 12-6 in her second indoor meet this season in the pole vault, while sophomore Georgette Moyle and freshman and Eugenean Kirsten Riley both cleared 11-0 (places were unavailable). Speight's mark was a new personal best by two inches and met the NCAA provisional standard of 12-5 1/2 (3.80 meters), an honor she also achieved in each of her first three seasons as a Duck.
In the throws, sophomore Mary Etter won the shot put (45-5 1/2), and was followed by freshman Dani Keyser (second, 38-8), sophomore Jordan McDaniels (fifth, 36-11), freshman Jill Hoxmeier (seventh, 35-10 1/2) and junior heptathlete Jenny Kenyon (13th, 27-7).
In the sprints, sophomore Heather Murtaugh led the Ducks in the 300-meter dash (second, 44.05), followed by freshman Daisy Pressley (third, 44.13).

The Duck women next compete at the Wolf Pack Invitational in Reno, Nev., hosted by the University of Nevada, Sat., Feb. 3.
