BRUINS MOHINI BHARDWAJ REPEATS AS PAC-10 GYMNAST OF THE WEEK

WALNUT CREEK, Calif.-- UCLA senior Mohini Bhardwaj has been named Pac-10 Gymnast of the Week for January 22-28.

Bhardwaj repeats as Pac-10 gymnast of the week with continued record breaking performances. Against No. 2 Alabama, Cal State Fullerton, and Southern Utah on Jan. 28, Bhardwaj posted two perfect 10s on floor exercise and bars en route to the nation leading All-Around score of 39.8. Coupled with a 9.9 win on vault and 9.9 on beam (good enough for second) Mohini was 0.2 points away from a perfect competition.

Bhardwaj, the returning All-American and NCAA bars champion from Cincinnati, Ohio, holds the school record for most career 10s (four), most 10s in a season (four) and ties the school record for most 10s in one meet (two).

In addition, Bhardwaj's high scores have placed her on the top 10 national ranking lists on three events. She isNo. 1 on floor with an average of 10.0, third on vault (9.881) and sixth on bars (9.906). No surprise that her All-Around score of 39.8 leads the nation as well-- a position she has held for two consecutive weeks.

ALSO NOMINATED: Katrina Severin, OSU, Randi Liljenquist, ARIZONA

PAC-10 NOTES

ARIZONA -On Friday, Arizona posted a season high team score of 193.9250 in McKale Center. Unfortunately, its aggregate score wasn't enough to overtake fourth ranked Utah (196.400)...Despite trailing for the entire meet, the Wildcats refused to let up. Six Arizona gymnasts, including SO Nikki Beyschau (9.775 floor) and JR Lindsay Compitello (9.750 beam and 9.475 bars) set or tied season and career-high marks...JR Randi Liljenquist placed second in the All-Around competition with a season high 39.225...The Wildcats have dropped out of the top 25 rankings and hope to re-establish their ranking with a win against No. 14 Oregon State and No. 21 Denver this Friday.

ARIZONA STATE - The Sun Devils refused to let go of their home winning streak and in a dramatic duel to the finish, they handed No. 1 UCLA its first loss of the season... Gutsy performances by Laura Moon and Maggie Germaine helped the Sun Devils end UCLA's quest for an undefeated season...Moon placed second in the All-Around (39.325) and tied for first on bars (9.875)...Germaine scored in every event for ASU and ensured victory for her team with one of three 9.875 scores on floor...If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen. The Sun Devils have not been defeated at home during the regular season in five years.

CALIFORNIA - California met with Oregon State on Sunday and despite a 195.575-195.00 loss to the Beavers, Cal tacked on another strong competition...The Bears broke the 195 mark for the second consecutive meet with SR Pari Olver and JR Carrie Kreifels finishing one-two in the All-Around (39.225 and 39.100 respectively).

OREGON STATE - OSU defeated the Cal Bears in Gill Coliseum. The charge was led by Katrina Severin who placed first on three events scoring 9.90 or higher on each. Severin has won a total of seven individual titles this year...Meanwhile, teammate Stephanie Bychowski is also swinging high. Ranked 10th in the nation on bars, Stephanie finished first on that apparatus for the second straight week with a career high 9.925...Next week the Beavers are up against Arizona and No. 24 Denver. OSU is aiming to increase consistency and reduce the number of falls on each apparatus.

STANFORD - The No. 7 Cardinal won their first meet of the season scoring 196.050 against Washington and Seattle Pacific on Sunday...FR Lindsay Wing scored 39.375 in the All-Around and teammate SR Jen Exaltacion was in close pursuit scoring 39.300 to place third...Stanford's freshman gymnasts swept the vault competition, all three gymnasts scored above 9.8 with Robin Phelps posting a 9.9 and earning the first place title.

UCLA - The Bruins were upset by Arizona State on Friday but they licked their wounds in time to beat No. 4 Alabama, Cal State Fullerton and Southern Utah on Sunday...UCLA scored a nation leading total of 197.5 through the outstanding performances of SR Mohini Bhardwaj. Bhardwaj received two perfect 10's (bars and floor) becoming only the second Bruin to score two 10s in one meet...All of the Bruins responded to Mohini's great performances. FR Kristin Parker set three career bests and SO Onnis Willis, recovered from foot injury, took first place in vault (9.90) in only her second competition back...UCLA has three athletes ranked in the Top 10 in the All Around. Bhardwaj No. 1 (39.642), Parker No. 8 (39.267) and FR Kristen Maloney is No. 9.

WASHINGTON - The Huskies tumbled to a second place victory and tied the school record on floor exercise in the process... Washington's score of 195.925 was its best score of the season, Stanford won with 196.050 points and Seattle Pacific was third (191.875)...JR Stacy Wong's strong start this season continued with a win on bars (9.975) and second place in the All-Around (39.350)...Five Huskies scored above 9.825 on floor to give Washington a score of 49.425. Their score ranks 20th in the nation.
