Perkins Loses Close Match In First Round Of Rolex Indoors

FARMERS BRANCH, Texas - Washington State's Erica Perkins lost in the first round of the women's singles at the Rolex National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, Thursday.
The tournament is the third leg of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Grand Slam and is being hosted by Southern Methodist University at the Brookhaven Country Club near Dallas.
Perkins, currently No. 51 in the WingspanBank.com national singles rankings, lost to 13th-ranked Kathy Sell of Duke, 6-4, 7-5.
Perkins will play in the consolation round Friday against Lindsay Dawaf of Florida, a 6-4, 6-2 loser to Ipek Senoglu of Pepperdine.
The Rolex National Intercollegiates feature a 32-player singles field and a 16-team doubles field for men and women, including qualifiers from ITA Regional Championships held across the country during the fall, the Rolex National Small College champions, the winners of the first two legs of the 2000-01 ITA Grand Slam (the T. Rowe Price National Clay Court and All-American Championships) and at-large and wild card selections made by the ITA National Tournament Committee.
