RENO, Nev. - The Stanford indoor track and field teams continue their season on Saturday when they travel to the Wolf Pack Invitational, hosted by the University of Nevada at Reno Livestock Events Center.
Competing teams include Stanford, Washington State, Oregon, Cal Poly, Fresno State, Cal, UCLA, and Sacramento State.
The Cardinal is coming off of a strong meet last weekend at the Razorback Invitational at the University of Arkansas. Sophomore Michael Ponikvar (Crescent, Ontario) will be competing in the high jump this weekend. With his mark of 7 feet-3 inches last weekend, which won the event, he provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships.
Also competing for the Cardinal men will be Caleb Bowman (Sandpoint, ID) and Nick Sebes (Mount Carmel, PA). It will be the first competition for both athletes, who also play football for Stanford. Bowman is schedule to run the 55 meter and 200 meter events, while Sebes will run in the 55 meters and 400 meters.
Junior Mark Hassel (Barstow, CA), who ran the 800 meters in the distance medley relay team that provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships last weekend in Arkansas, is scheduled to run in the 800 meters. Evan Kelty (West Linn, OR), a member of last year's world-record setting distance medley relay team, is also competing this weekend in the 55 meters and the 400 meters.
Among Stanford's women competitors are Kathleen Donoghue (San Diego, CA) and Melissa Feinstein (Weston, MA). Both athletes currently hold the school record in the pole vault with a mark of 13-0 1/4. Maureen Onyeagbako (Sparks, NV) is scheduled to compete in the weight throw, an event in which she also holds the school record with a mark of 59-2 3/4.
Scheduled to run in the 800 meters for the Cardinal is senior Ashley Couper (Pembroke, Bermuda) and junior Maurica Carlucci (Franklin, MA). Last weekend at Arkansas, both runners set personal records in the 800 meters and look to better their times in Reno.
