USC Women's Hoops Falls 61-55 To Golden Bears

Los Angeles, Calif. - The Cal Golden Bears snapped USC women'sbasketball's two-game win streak with a 61-55 victory over the Women ofTroy at the Lyon Center on Friday night in front of 564. The win marks thefirst for Cal at USC since the 1989-90 season.
With the loss, USC drops to 3-5 in conference play and 8-10 overall, whileCal improves to 3-5 in the Pac-10, 7-11 overall.
Freshmen Aisha Hollans and Ebony Hoffman led the Women of Troy with 14 and10 points apiece. Hoffman also added eight rebounds in the effort. TheBears were guided by senior Courtney Johnson who scored a game-high 22points. Cal center Ami Forney recorded her fourth double-double (secondconsecutive) of the season with 12 points and 10 boards.
The Trojans trailed by as many as 11 points (17-6) at the start of thefirst half after enduring a nine-minute field goal drought. But with twoconsecutive jumpers by forward Carmen Krause, the Women of Troy took thelead and eventually entered the break with a six point advantage, 29-23.
Cal knotted the score 33-33 in just over five minutes into the second half,but a 12-2 USC run fueled by consecutive three-pointers, gave USC itslargest lead of the game, 45-35, at 9:17. Despite the burst the Trojanscould not maintain the effort, allowing Cal to tie the score at 53-53 and55-55 with 3:28 and 2:13 left on the clock. The Golden Bears would go onto take the win after hitting 4-of-4 at the line and a lay-up for thesix-point edge in the final two minutes.
