Evan Kelty, Michael Ponikvar Win Events At Wolf Pack Invitational

RENO, Nev. - Stanford's Evan Kelty (West Linn, OR) and Michael Ponikvar (Crescent, Ontario) each won individual titles on Saturday at the Wolf Pack Invitational hosted by the University of Nevada at Reno Livestock Events Center.

Kelty took first place in the 400 meters with a time of 48.82 seconds to win his first event of the indoor season. Ponikvar won the high jump with a mark of 7 feet, 1/4 inch. This is the second meet in a row where Ponikvar has won the high jump as he was the top finisher two weeks ago at the Razorback Invitational in Arkansas with his jump of 7 -2 1/4.

Stanford took the fourth and fifth spots in the triple jump with Warrick McDowell's (Spring, TX) jump of 46-10 3/4 and Milton Little's (Portsmouth, RI) mark of 46-3/4.The Cardinal took third place in the competitive 4 x 400 meter relay. Stanford came in at 3:20.99 while Fresno State won the race in 3:20.07 and Cal was second in 3:20.14.

Nick Welihozkiy (Springfield, VA) set a personal best this season in the weight throw with his mark of 58-08 1/2. He placed fourth in the event. Welihozkiy

In the 55 meters, Stanford was led by Kelty's 10th-place finish in 6.61. Following Kelty were Nick Sebes (Mount Carmel, PA), Caleb Bowman (Sandpoint, ID) and Justin Williams (Worthington, OH). Sebes (6.67) was 14th, Bowman (6.69) 15th and Williams (20.14) 28th. Bowman placed ninth in the 200 meters, recording a 23.41 while Sebes was eighth in the 400 with a 51.27.

In the 800 meters, Che Banjoko (Rockville Center, NJ) posted a 2:02.02 for ninth place and Busayo Ojumi (Alexandria, VA) had a 2:03.66 for 10th. In the 55 meter high hurdles, Stanford finished eighth and ninth behind Williams (7.89) and Jay Goff (Turner, OR) (7.96).

In other field events, Tyler Gray (Cottonwood, CA) had a vault of 14-7 1/4 in the pole vault, good for ninth place. The Cardinal had three competitors in the shot put, led by Omer Inan (Beaverton, OR), who had a 51-3 1/2 for sixth place. Chris Sprague (Eugene, OR) was right behind him in seventh with a 51-01 and Welihozkiy was 10th, posting a 47-6 1/4.
