Storey Named Pac-10 Player Of The Week

Tempe, Ariz. -- Arizona State junior forward Awvee Storey has been named the Pacific-10 Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Jan. 29-Feb. 4.
Storey, from Chicago, Ill., averaged 20.0 points and 9.5 rebounds in apair of road wins over Oregon State and Oregon as the Sun Devils won forthe first time in league play this season. Included in the pair of wins was a 27-point win at Oregon (99-72), the largest victory margin in a road game by ASU since a 90-62 win at Washington on Jan. 10, 1981, a span of 223 games. It marked just the second road sweep for the Sun Devils in its past 20 Pac-10 trips.
He scored 17 points on 8-of-15 (.615) shooting from the field, with seven rebounds and two assists in the win at Oregon State. In the win atOregon, Storey tallied his eighth double-double of the season with 23points on 11-of-15 (.733) shooting from the field, with 12 rebounds. Forthe week, he shot 19-of-28 (.679) from the field.
Storey led the Pac-10 in offensive rebounds last year and is averaging 14.6 points and 12.1 rebounds in his past eight contests and is averaging 9.3 rebounds per game, including 64 (3.4 per game) on the offensive end. He also has posted double-digits in rebounding six of the past eight games and is averaging a double-double in Pac-10 play (13.6 points and 10.9 rebounds).
It is the first weekly award for Storey, the 17th all-time honor for theSun Devils.
PAC-10 PLAYERS OF THE WEEK: Eddie House won his fourth Pac-10 Player of the Week Award this year on Feb. 21 last year, joining Ed O'Bannon (UCLA in 1994-95), Chris Mills (Arizona in 1992-93) and Gary Payton (Oregon State in 1989-90) as the only Pac-10 players to have won the award four times in a year. House had a stranglehold on the Pac-10 Player of the Week, as he won it three straight weeks at the beginning of the year (Dec. 20, Jan. 2, Jan. 10), the first time any Pac-10 Player has won the award in one season in three straight weeks (Gary Payton won it three straight over the course of two seasons). He earned the honor five times in his career. Eleven ASU players have been named Pac-10 Player of the Week on 17 occasions.
