Washington Football Recruiting Class Features 22 Players

Seattle - A total of 21 high school student-athletes and one junior college transfer signed national letters of intent today to enroll at the University of Washington and play football for the Huskies as of 2 p.m. PT. They join a pair of junior college players, quarterback Taylor Barton and linebacker Kai Ellis, who signed national letters of intent in December and enrolled at Washington in January.

The 2001 recruiting class (including Barton and Ellis) includes five offensive linemen, three defensive linemen, three linebackers, two running backs, two safeties, two cornerbacks, two wide receivers, two tight ends, two quarterbacks and a punter.

Of the players signing national letters of intent today, seven hail from the state of Washington, seven are from California, three are from Hawaii and one each from Alaska, Arizona, Florida, Illinois and Nevada.

The Huskies 2001 class was well represented on a number of prominent state and regional all-star squads. A total of 12 players were named to the Tacoma News Tribune's 'Western 100' team and four were featured on that publication's 'Northwest Nuggets' squad. Seven players were members of the Seattle Times' all-state team and six were featured on the Associated Press' all-state roster. There were five players named to the Long Beach Press Telegram's 'Best of the West'.
