Feb. 8, 2001
STANFORD, Calif.--- The Stanford University men's tennis team puts its 59-match home winning streak on the line this weekend when it takes on Fresno State (1-0) and San Diego State (2-2) at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium.
The Cardinal (2-0), which has not lost at home since April 5, 1996 (4-3 to UCLA), hosts 17th-ranked Fresno State (1-0) on Friday at 1:30 p.m. and 43rd-ranked San Diego State (2-2) on Saturday at noon as a part of ComDisco Ventures 'Kickoff Weekend'.
Stanford is led by senior and defending NCAA Singles Champion Alex Kim (Potomac, MD/Winston Churchill HS), who won the ITA Individual Indoor singles title last weekend in Dallas. Kim, who is now 7-0 on the season, beat four of the top 15 ranked players in the nation en route to his fourth career singles title.
On the doubles side, Stanford has received outstanding performances from the sophomore duo of Scott Lipsky (Merrick, NY/Bellmore-Kennedy HS) and David Martin (Key Biscayne, FL/Boca Raton Prep). Lipsky and Martin, who upset the nation's top ranked duo (Brian Vahaly and Huntley Montgomery of Virginia) last weekend in Dallas, are 13-2 and claimed the doubles title at the ITA Indoor Qualifier in November.
